From scratch in this case means not buying the expensive sweet potato plants (slips) from the garden center. They easily sell for £3 -£4 per plant. And you need a lot to get a good crop of sweet potatoes. Last year Matt and I tried growing 2 plants. We got maybe 6 sweet potatoes from those two plants that varied in size. This year we decided we wanted more but didn’t want to spend the money buying plants. So we googled it. The whole process took about 10 months, from potato to potato!

Rain, rain, go away…
Well yesterday was a bust! Day one of my super long Easter weekend was rainy. And not just a little I-can-still-go-out-and-plant-potatoes rain, but all out pouring, drenching, I-think-it-hailed-a-little, stay-in-all-day rain. And today is not much better! Big boo for British weather this weekend.
World domination.
My seedlings really like music. I swear that with the melancholic Eric Satie and Gnosienne #1 playing in the background they’ll grow an inch. They prefer mellow, nothing to rousing. But today with Alexa playing a random smattering of the Late Great Leonard Cohen, they grew two inches*. Maybe they’re trying to take over the world, but by now they should know that Manhattan and Berlin are taken.
Here we go…
When I started writing it was snowing. The #beastfromtheeast was still raging and there was an accumulation of 2cm of snow from the last couple of days. I thought to myself what a perfect day to start my blog. My long-awaited blog, that I’ve wanted to write since leaving Canada, 14 months ago.
